What is it?
Paessler SNMP Helper is a system-level software program that runs on a Windows 2000, XP or 2003 computer system that allows OTHER systems running PRTG Traffic Grapher or IPCheck Server Monitor to collect performance information remotely, using the SNMP protocol.
What does it do?
By simply installing SNMP Helper "on top" of the SNMP service (which comes with the OS) on Windows 2000, XP or 2003 systems, you can monitor numerous performance counters using PRTG Traffic Grapher. SNMP Helper is necessary because the Windows built-in support for SNMP is very rudimentary and can cause more than one head ache...
How can I use it?
You must install SNMP Helper on the machine(s) you want to monitor, not necessarily the machine you run PRTG Traffic Grapher on. After installation of PRTG Traffic Grapher (free download) you will find the installation files of SNMP Helper in the folder you installed PRTG Traffic Grapher into. After a reboot you can monitor the additional system parameters with PRTG Traffic Grapher by using the "Add Sensor" wizard.
The following system parameters of Windows machines can be monitored after installation of SNMP Helper:
- CPU Interrupt Time, CPU Priviledged Time, CPU User Time, CPU Processor Time (for CPU 1-4)
- Number of Processes and Threads
- Memory (Available, Committed, Cache, Pages/sec and others)
- Disk Time, Disk Read Time, Disk Write Time, Reads/sec, Writes/sec, Free Space and others (for drives C: to I:)
